JDE Disaster Recovery — US Consumer Products
Full JDE restore validated. Zero data loss. Business continuity preserved for a US consumer products manufacturer on Oracle Cloud.
CONSUMER PRODUCTS · JDE ON OCI · MULTI-WAREHOUSE · MISSION-CRITICAL RECOVERY
Full JDE restore. Zero data loss.
A US consumer products manufacturer operating JDE EnterpriseOne across multi-warehouse facilities on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure had a theoretical continuity plan — but no validated recovery path. Allari® implemented a mirrored DR architecture with RMAN replication and Cognoware backup management, then proved it through a controlled failover exercise. Full data restoration confirmed. Multi-warehouse operations verified resumable. Business continuity converted from assumption to documented fact. See methodology.
SECTOR: Consumer Products · PLATFORM: JDE EnterpriseOne · OCI · OPERATIONS: Multi-warehouse · OUTCOME: Zero data loss
Source: Allari post-engagement records and customer-cleared reporting. Full JDE restoration verified through controlled weekend failover exercise. Zero data loss: database and application state confirmed intact post-failover; no records lost or corrupted.
Diagnosis
Theoretical continuity — no validated recovery path
The manufacturer — a US consumer products company operating JDE EnterpriseOne across multi-warehouse facilities — had recently completed a Lift-and-Shift migration of its JDE production environment to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The migration itself was successful, but it left three compounding risk factors unresolved.
First, the organization had no validated recovery path. Prior disaster scenarios had required manual coordination under pressure, with no pre-tested procedure and no automated failover mechanism. Every failure scenario depended on ad-hoc human judgment at the worst possible moment.
Second, backup integrity was unverified. The organization could not answer a fundamental question: if the OCI production environment fails, what is the confirmed state of the data at the point of recovery? Without a live DR replication layer, backup integrity remained theoretical.
Third, residual stabilization debt from the Lift-and-Shift — including package deployment issues and authentication failures — had to be resolved before DR testing could safely proceed. The DR environment could not be validated until the production foundation was fully stable. Testing an unstable production environment would produce unreliable results and potentially create new failure modes.
NO VALIDATED PATHUnvalidated Recovery Assumption
No pre-tested procedure, no automated failover mechanism. Every failure scenario depended on ad-hoc human coordination under pressure.
BACKUP INTEGRITY UNKNOWNUnverified Data State
Backup integrity was theoretical. Without live replication, the confirmed state of data at point of recovery was unknown.
STABILIZATION DEBTResidual Migration Debt
Package deployment and authentication issues from the Lift-and-Shift had to be resolved before DR validation could begin safely.
DIAGNOSIS
No validated recovery path. Backup integrity unverified. Residual stabilization debt preventing safe DR testing. Multi-warehouse operations exposed to unquantified downtime risk. Theoretical continuity plan with zero operational validation.
Intervention
Mirrored DR architecture on OCI — stabilization first, then validation
Allari began by resolving the residual stabilization issues from the prior migration, establishing a stable production foundation before any DR work commenced. Once production was confirmed stable, Allari deployed a comprehensive DR architecture designed for seamless failover across three structural pillars:
- Mirrored DR Environment on OCI — A secondary DR site within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure featuring live replication of production databases and application servers. The DR environment mirrors production at every layer — database, application server, and web access — not a degraded subset. Any failover activates a full-fidelity production equivalent.
- RMAN Replication + Cognoware Backup Management — Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) provides continuous database-level replication between production and DR environments with minimal lag. Cognoware manages backup orchestration and recovery sequencing, eliminating manual intervention from the recovery path and providing an auditable chain of custody for every backup event.
- Controlled Failover Validation + Runbook Delivery — The architecture was not declared complete until a full weekend failover exercise confirmed data integrity and operational functionality under real conditions. Allari delivered formal recovery procedures and escalation protocols enabling the manufacturer to execute recovery independently — without Allari's direct involvement at the moment of crisis.
The hybrid execution methodology combined structured milestone planning with real-time technical adjustments. When residual stabilization issues surfaced during the engagement, the methodology absorbed them without scope creep or budget overrun — the complete solution was delivered within budget.

Complete solution delivered within budget — stabilization debt absorbed through hybrid execution without scope creep or overrun
Beyond the Restore
What the Manufacturer Keeps
OPERATIONAL CONFIDENCE
The manufacturer now possesses the practical confidence to maintain business continuity under real-world outage conditions. The engagement converted an unquantified risk — 'what happens if production goes down?' — into a documented, validated, and rehearsed answer. Multi-warehouse operations can resume without ad-hoc human coordination under pressure.
INDEPENDENT RECOVERY CAPABILITY
Runbook-level documentation and escalation protocols mean the manufacturer can execute the full recovery sequence without Allari's direct involvement at the moment of crisis. The knowledge is codified in their operations, not held by a vendor.
INFRASTRUCTURE MODERNIZATION COMPLETED
The DR implementation completes the arc that began with the Lift-and-Shift to OCI. The JDE environment now runs on modern cloud infrastructure with validated disaster recovery — eliminating both the platform obsolescence risk and the business continuity risk in a coordinated two-phase engagement.
How These Outcomes Were Verified
Methodology
- Zero data loss claim
- Verified through the controlled weekend failover exercise. Database and application state was confirmed intact post-failover against pre-failover snapshots. No records were lost or corrupted during the failover sequence. Result is from a single controlled exercise under planned conditions — not from an unplanned outage event.
- Failover test result
- Full weekend failover exercise completed to verify data integrity and operational functionality. The DR environment handled production workload without degradation during the exercise window. Web access and database recovery both confirmed operational within the DR environment.
- Multi-warehouse operations
- The manufacturer operates JDE across multi-warehouse facilities. The failover exercise confirmed that warehouse operations — order processing, inventory management, and distribution functions — could resume from the DR environment without requiring ad-hoc manual coordination.
- Budget delivery
- The complete solution was delivered within the original project budget. Residual stabilization issues absorbed through the hybrid execution methodology without scope change or budget overrun. Full financial details available under NDA on request.
- Caveats
- Single-engagement measurement at one consumer products manufacturer running JD Edwards EnterpriseOne on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. DR architecture results on different cloud platforms, different ERP versions, or estates with different stabilization profiles will differ. Full methodology available on request.
